Emil Høye was among Norway's foremost craftsmen in gold and silver in the early 20th century. With his solid vocational education in Bergen's leading goldsmith's workshop and further artistic education in Paris, he became one of the foremost in the goldsmith profession during a rich and flourishing period for Norwegian handicrafts.

Høye studied goldsmithing in Marius Hammer's workshop in Bergen 1890–95 and furthered his education at the École des Arts Décoratifs and two workshops in Paris 1895–98.
